Element Potassium (K), Group 1, Atomic Number 19, s-block, Mass 39.098, the alkali metal group, indispensable for both plant and animal life. The greatest demand for potassium compounds is in fertilizers. Elemental potassium is soft and silvery-white in colour and has one more electron than argon, an element that we know is extremely stable.
